Hop Bitterness (IBU's) : 60

Color (SRM) : Brass

Availability: Draft and Bottles Year Round

Malts: Pale, Crystal, Munich, Cara Pils

Hops: Magnum, Williamette, Chinook

Flavor: Huge hop profile, balanced by a strong malt backbone.

   History
English brewers found a healthy market for their beer in India during the 19th century, a time when Britannia ruled the waves. To withstand the extreme equatorial heat and gyrations of the ships, the beer received heavy doses of hops. Pike IPA follows the recipes of these early brewers by making a beer of similar strength and very highly hopped.

   Tasting Notes

Dry and floral, with the beautiful aroma of fresh hops and a sublime maltiness from gently roasted barley.

   Serving Suggestions
Foods of character - olive bread, Kalamata tapenade, Yakima hop salad, chicken satay, steamed freshly picked garden vegetables with walnut sauce, crab spring rolls, Greek salad, Magyar goulash, and alder-grilled smoked salmon. Dessert: gingersnap tiramisu.

Naughty Nellie's Ale
Naughty Nellie's Ale

Alcohol by Volume: 4.7%

Hop Bitterness (IBU's) : 22

Color (SRM) : Deep Golden

Availability: Draft and Bottles Year Round

Malts: Pale, Munich, Belgian Aromatic

Hops: Centennial, Cascade, Spaltz

Flavor: A refreshing, mildly hopped beer with a complex malt character.

   History
A salute to Nellie Curtis, who once ran an infamous "bawdy house" at our original brewery location. During World War II, Nellie took over a lease on the Outlook Hotel at the foot of Pike Street and renamed it the "LaSalle," possibly after the General Motors' luxury automobile. Her attempts at discretion were thwarted by as many as 1,000 sailors lining up at the door for a "ride." Nellie kept the motor running for nearly a decade before selling the hotel to new owners who, to the disappointment of many a lonely mariner, turned it into a legitimate hotel.

   Tasting Notes

A mildly hopped beer with a complex malt character, and a soft creamy head. Soft and fruity with light yeast esters of apricot and orange. It is a refreshing and crisp session beer, with just enough hops to balance and round out the sweetness of the malt.

   Serving Suggestions
Wonderful as an aperitif beer or as a summer refresher. An excellent accompaniment to salads, crab legs, halibut, chicken satay, gumbo or barbeque.

Kilt Lifter Scotch Ale
Kilt Lifter Scotch Ale

Alcohol by Volume: 6.6%

Hop Bitterness (IBU's) : 27

Color (SRM) : Amber

Availability: Draft and Bottles Year Round

Malts: Pale, Crystal, Munich, Wheat, Cara Pils, Peated

Hops: Magnum, Williamette, East Kent Golding

Flavor: Layers of rich maltiness with hints of peaty smokiness.

   History
Scotch ale is the strongest of all "Scottish" ales. It is sometimes called "wee heavy," or the Scottish equivalent of England’s barley wines. Scotland’s cool, damp climate is best suited to the growth of barley, and thus the country’s brewers became accustomed to working with minimal quantities of hops (which they were not anxious to purchase from England). Scotch ales are rich and malty and often accented with a touch of peat-smoked whiskey malt.

   Tasting Notes

Unlike the lighter "Scottish" ales, this is an authentic heavy Scotch ale. It is lightly hopped with a strong malt character, and a hint of peaty smokiness. Warm fermentation produces fruity esters and balances the sweet malt character.

   Serving Suggestions
Serve with hearty and flavorful fare such as steaks, pork chops, stews or shephard's pie. Excellent with a cigar or as a nightcap.

Seasonal Selections

Pike Old 89 Nitro Porter

Pike Old 89 Nitro Porter

A new world version of an old world classic. Dark in color and light in body, this beer combines 'big beer' complexity and 'session beer' balance. Charged with nitrogen, "Old 89" pours beautifully, with the distinctive cascading body transforming into a perfectly dense and creamy head. Like the classics, plenty of coffee and chocolate come through. Like the modern nitro versions, it finished amazingly soft and light for a dark ale.

Pike Weisse

Pike Weisse

Medium hopped with malt and wheat character, a smooth fruity balance and soft creamy head. Mild fruity esters and a soft wheat flavor are the major characteristics of this beer. It is light and crisp with just enough hops to balance and round out the sweetness of the malt and wheat.

Pike Street XXXXX Stout

Pike Street XXXXX Stout

A full-bodied beer with deep chocolate color, velvety malt texture and a dark-roasted flavor, with hints of smokiness and coffee. It combines the dryness of traditional Dublin-style stout with the strength and character of Imperial Stout.

Pike Bootleg Brown

Pike Bootleg Brown

A classic British Nut Brown, Bootleg is unusually soft for an American version. This beer is flat-out drinkable, but still possesses the complexity in malt layers you would expect from Pike Brewing Co.
